MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. Au ordinary meeting of the Council.of the Canterbury Acclimstie atioa Society was held yesterday afternoon; present— The Hon J. T. Peacock (in the chair). Professor Haslam, Messrs Wigram, B. T. Searell, C. Lewis. W. Edwards, A. Scott, J. Eaine, H. N. Nalder and A. Garrick. *)£ BIRDS AND GAME COMMITTEE. The Bub-Committee appointed to consider matters relative to game reported in favour of the establishment of a; gamefarm whereon to breed and rear various birds. A piece of land suitable for the purpoeeof such a farm could easily be obtained, and tbe Committee thought that Mr Parkinson, of Haitnna, would grant the nee of such, a piece. A gamekeeper could be procured from Home, who could bring oat a stock of partridges of various breeds. Pheasants had been successfully reared in the North Island and .turned out from farms. The expenditure for the first eighteen months was estimated at .£250, the keeper’s salary being pat down at £l5O. To meet this expenditure the Committee, asked the Council to vote £SO, and also to set aside the proceeds of the gamo licenses. Considering that a greatly increased membership would result from the establishment of such a farm, the Committee alec asked that the first two years* subscription of new members should be placed to the credit of the scheme. The Committee would also like to | torn out some red deer in Canterbury, j These animals hod been successfully I reared in Otago and elsewhere. The Com* f mittee called attention to the constant alterations that hod been made in recent years in the opening and closing of the shooting seasons, and urged that dates should be fixed and adhered to. v A discussion took place on the report. It wfia mentioned that so eager were many sportsmen to see each a scheme started that substantial subscriptions had already been promised. After some discussion the report was adopted in its general principles, and dt was decided to eet apart the stun of £IOO out of the general'funds of the Society for the purpose of carrying out the scheme, and to add to this fund any special’ donations received. The Birds and Gome Committee was elected a permanent Committee to carry into effect the recommendations of the report. The members of the Committee are Messrs Wigram, Lewis, Balne, Edwards and Wilson. " BANGXEB. , On the motion of Mr Searell, it was decided to write to the Minister for Marine and a«k him if It was practicable to pace an Order-in-Oonnoil fixing (he powers of rangers. The list of rangers was considered and revised, and new names ordered to be sent to Wellington to be gazetted. After discussing several small mutters the meeting terminated.
