DOMAIN BOARD.

A meeting of the Christchurch Domain Board was held yesterday; present— Mr H.P. Murray- Ayaslay (Chairman), Sir John Hall, Hon C. O. Bowen, Mesara J. W. A. Merchant, l and E. J. S. Harman, and tha Mayors of Christchurch and St Albans. Mr B. H. Wood, Chairman of the Hospital Board, attended with tha designs of the proposed Nurses’ Home. After some discussion it was resolved—- “ That the Board approves of the designs submitted for the Nurses’ Home, but would suggest tha introduction of some feature in the frontage facing the Domain to break the monotony of that face of the building.” The design for tba Polo Club’s pavilion was submitted. On the motion of the Hon C. 0. Bowen it was decided -to authorise the erection of the pavilion, provided that the back and sides were screened by a plantation to the satisfaction of tha Board. The Hon C- C. Bowen mentioned that there seemed to be a growing impression that the Board wanted to make a sbeepmn out of the domain, whereas that was its only source of income. The Board, too, had done its best to encourage sport of all kinds. Accounts amounting to .£llO 83 lOd were passed for payment. An application from the Church of Christ Sunday School, to be allowed to bold a picnic in the Domain, was granted on the usual conditions. A letter was read from Mr G. H. Merton, asking the Board to reconsider its decision as fco the hoars of bathing. It was resolved that the Board could not alter tha hours. * It was resolved on the motion of the Hon G. C. Bowen, seconded by the Mayo? of Christchurch—“ That tho Domain Board, at its first meeting after the lamented death of tho late Secretary, Colonel Lean, desires to put on record its sense of tha great interest he took in the work of the Board, and the care and assiduity with which ho attended to tho duties devolving upon him, and that the Board wishes to express its sympathy with his family in their sorrow.” The Board then went into Committee. On resuming the head gardener’s report, dealing with work requiring to be done, wta received. The meeting than terminated. ■ . .
