SWIMMING.
EAST CHRISTCHURCH AMATEUR SWIMMING CLUB.
The fourth annual exhibition of aquatic sports under the auspices of the Bast Christchurch Amateur Swimming Club was held on Saturday afternoon. The sport was of an interesting character. For some reason only about fifteen members took part in the sports, and it Beams strange that a Club with a membership of over three hundred conld only raise from its own ranks a handful of competitors for its annual carnival. Too officials discharged their duties in an efficient manner, and the events were got off' promptly. The following are the results of tho principal events: — 100yds Inter-Club Handicap. First heat: H. L. Armitago (Richmond), Msec, 1; S. L. Partridge (Bast Christchurch), scr, 2; C. H. Fox (Christchurch). Bsec, 3. W. Cleary (Lyttelton) IStec, also started. Won by two yards; an inch or two between second and third. Time—9S-|sec. Second heat :• A. E. Roper (Bast Christchurch), 2sec, I; E. A. Essfc (East Christchurch), 1836 c, 2. Won easily by two yards. Time—--87- jsec. Third heat: C. Kent (Sydenham), 16aec, 1: W. H. Carl (East Christchurch), 2Ogee, 2. W. F. Kiddey (Lyttelton), 12sac, also starred. Won very easily by eight yards. Time—lol4-sec. Fourth heat: P. Cleary (Cbrifctchurch), 2aec, 1; G. A. Rich (Lyttelton), 12sec, 2. A. C. Hinge (East Christchurch), 21sec, also started. Won easily by two yards and a half. Time—99sec. Fifth heat: F. F. Williems (Christchurch), 2l3ec, 1; H. Dunnaga (East Christchurch), 3aeo, 2. F. Ward (Richmond), 18sec, also started. Won on the touch. Time—loß-aec. Final Lest: C. Kent (Sydenham), IGsae, 1; H. L. Avmitage (Richmond), 14sec, 2; P. Cleary (Christchurch), 2scg, 3. A. E. Roper (East Christchurch), 2,-:eo, 4. Won on the touch; Cleary a away a foot in front of Roper. Time—9Bjsee. Blindfold Race, 50yds.—A. C. Hinge 1, S. C. Wat-new 2. Five started. Egg and Spoon Race, 50yds.—T. H. Hughes (Richmond) l, L. Loaguet (Bast Christchurch) 2. Five started. Obstacle Race.—S. L. Partridge 1, A. Duncan 2. E. N. Duncan and C. Le Mercier also started. Won by a yard. RICHMOND AMATEUR SWIMMING CLUB. A meeting of the Committee of the Richmond Amateur Swimming Club was held on Saturday evening; present—Mr F. J. Craddock (Captain in the cbairl and Messrs W. Bassett, H. Craddock, C. P. Bradford, F. Ward, C. J. Styche (Hon Treasurer) and G. Milne Hon Secretary. It was decided- to comply with the Christchurch Amateur Swimming Club’s request to play a pclo match at its carnival on Saturday next. Messrs Marsack and E. Brown and five ladies were elected members. It was resolved to alter the data of the 50yds Handicap from Friday, Dec. 15, to Thursday, Dec. 14. It was resolved that the Club should give its support to the inter-Glub Carnival on the Estuary on Feb. 3, and should p-asist in every way to make it a success. Tho Secretary reported the hours during which the Both Committee had decided to allow ladies to use the bath.
