RIVER BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the South W&h makariri Elver Board was held yesterday afternoon j present—Mr W. Boag (Chairman), Messrs 0. F. Money, T. Wilson, B. W. England, and H. Crooks. The Over* seer reported ■ that the floods had done no damage to the river banket At Ho. , H embankment the main stream was working its way back to Nos. 2 and 3 groins. At the Seven-mile Peg the river was still working towards the bank, and was now in the, lowe* channel. If an embankment were built ijj would have to be three chains farther down. Three thousand silver poplin* trees had been planted, at a cost of £49165. and willow trees had been planted betweeh the groins at a cost of £Bl2s. In reply to questions the Overseer said the bank would take two thousand yards oil earth, and require a concrete end. The material could be scooped from the Board’fe reserve, if the bank were placed where he proposed. The total cost would be, £285, Some discussion took place, and the Chair* man said that although he wsm against spending any large sum of money on the nver at that point, he thought the Overseer should receive instructions to watch the nyd* bank, and do what was necessary in ordqf to prevent damage being done at time. Mr Wilson moved—" That a sum not to exceed £4O be spent in order to puli a email protective groin at' the end ofthe road above the out-fall drain.” This was. seconded and carried. Accounts' were passed amounting to £47 16s 4d, and the meeting terminated.
