LAND BOARD.
The usual meeting of the Canterbury Land Board was held on Thursday; present—Mr J. W. A. Marchflnfc (Chief Commissioner), and Messrs D. M’Millan and A. C. Pringle. The following applications for land were granted : Jane Mason, Lot 3, Block VII., Like Ellesmere Reserve 959, on lease in perpetuity ; William Hay Beere, Sections 36100 to 36405 (inclusive), and 8 acres adjoining 36405, under the Naval and Military Settlers and Volunteers Land Act of 1892. An application from John Fraser was deferred. It was resolved to withdraw from tale Lot 27, Reserve 13S1 and Lot 41, Reserve 1371, and re-open them for selection, with a reduced valuation of £4O, with improvements. The following applications for freehold title were approved; —Deferred-payment license 425, Henry Sadler, Lot 23, Reserve 1263, village settlement; Deferred - payment license 748, George Hobbs, Lot 884, village settlement; Deferred-payment license 777, J. W. Bradbury, Lot 2, Reserve 1261, Deferrod-payment license 444, James Sumpter, Lot 12, Reserve 191, was also made freehold under Section 146 of the Land Act of 1892 on the recommendation of the Ranger. The following transfers of lictnses and leases were made: Deferred payment license 616, Lot 16, Reserve 19, permission given to Mr Michael Burke, as administrator of the estate, to mortgage this section to Mr John Manchester for £l5O, Lease 93, Lot 9, Reserve 261, George Monkley to D. Hall. Delay was granted in the transfer of this saction, on the application of the Official Trustee. Lease 332, Lot 21, Reserve 1126, Waimatc, transfer approved from James Patterson to John Patterson. Joseph Taylor was permitted to capitalise the unpaid instalments in pastoral deferred payment lease No. 5. Mr Ambrose Fox was allowed to lease portion of the land comprised in the Stour Village Settlement at a fair rental. It was resolved to renew for two months, to Oct. 31, 1893, the grazing leases of parts of the Lake Ellesmere Reserve, which expire on August 31. An application to lease Lots 4 and 13, Block VL, was deferred. It was decided to recommend to Government to offer, for cash, at auction sections in the townships of Ashburton (at £2O and £3O per acre), Hinds (£2O per acre), Orari (£2O), Geraldine (£3O), and Arowhenua (£3O). James Douds and Eliza Douds (occupation licenses 7 and 8, Stoneyhurstl, were allowed to surrender their holdings as they found themselves unable to occupy the land.
