SOUTHBRIDGE TOWN BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Thursday evening; present—Messrs It. C. Burns (Chairman), A. Cameron, T. Shearman, John Kilbride, and Jas. Kilbride. Mr 0. H. Willis, the newly-elected member, took his seat. A letter was read from the Native Land Law Eefoim League, asking for an expression of opinion by the Board on the subject of opening up’Native lands. Consideration was held ’over. A discussion took place over a claim made by the Board’s labourer, and it'was unanimously decided that he was only entitled to half a day’s pay by the terms of hie contract. Mr E. Webster was appointed treasurer, vice Mr H. W. Sharp, resigned from the Board, and was elected a member of the Works Committee. The Clerk pointed out that a sum of J3ll 2b had been taken out of No. 1 account and paid into No. 2 account. He asked if the Board intended to repay this money. Mr Shearman moved that it should be repaid. MrCameronsecondod the motion. Mr C. H. Willis protested, and Mr Shearman then withdrew his motion until a full Board whs present. Mr Shearman asked what the Quadrille Assembly paid for the use of the hall. The Cimk understood chat the rental was 7s 6 i per night; no money had been paid to him. He was instructed to apply for payment, and also for a copy of the agreement. Mr Willis asked under what arrangements, and at whoso cost, the water-race had been brought from Brown’s comer into the township. The Chairman said it had been done at the cost of the ratepayers, and a discussion took place on this and similar matters. Accounts amounting to J 255 11a 4d were passed for payment, and the meeting terminated.
