At a meeting of the Public Works Committee of the City" Council to-night, it was decided to recommend that the present Corporation offices in Brandon street should be submitted for sale by auction, with the view, if sold, of erecting a more suitable building oa the site reserved for a town hall on the reclaimed land. At a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce to-day, Mr W. Mitchell, who was unseated by the Resident Magistrate on Monday last, was proposed. By way of amendment Mr Hugh Carswell was proposed for recommendation to the Governor for nomination. Mr Carswell was selected by twelve votes to nine, The Chamber consists of twenty-seven members, twentytwo of whom attended, there being one non-voter. Great interest attached to the meeting of the Chamber, owing to the Court proceedings instituted by sis of its members.
