There is considerable activity ia the wool market, and, since the dose of last sales, four thousand bales have been disposed of privately. Prices are slightly firmer than the closing rates. The arrivals up to date total 220,000 bales, of which 70,000 bales were sent forward direct to the manufacturing districts. The English wheat market is declining, the Continental is lifeless, and the American ia dull. An Australian cargo of wheat, prompt delivery, sold at SO?. There is a steady demand for factory-made butter. It is expected that prices for the coming shipments will be reduced. ST PETERSBURG, March 12, Russia is raising au internal loan of fifteen millions at per cent. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, Melbourne, writing under date March 4, reports as follows :—Ws have nothing fresh to report in our markets. For wheat there still continues a fair demand at late rulings. We quote, for prime samples, up to 3a 2d, medium 2a lid to 3s Id, dirty and inferior 2sßdto2alod. Barley still remains firm, and any lots on olfer ate eagerly sought after. Prime to-day is worth 4a 5-1 to" -Is fid, fair to good Oa lOd to 4<t 3;1, inferior for feed purposes up to 2s 91 paid. Cape 2s 2d. Oats have a moderate enquiry at reduced rates. Good plump are worth up to 2s Id, medium stouts In lOd to Is lid, Tartarian and Danish le 8d to Is 9d, Tartarian seed 2s, Algerians from Is fid to Is Bd. Maize is hardly so firm, and baa an inclination to fall. Good sound is worth 4s t > Id, white 8« 9-1; rye, 4s to 84; hor-o bean.-’, 3* 31 to 3s fi.l; pens, 254 < to 2.3 4Li. The dyeing of one piece of linen requires , eighteen distinct processes.
