FOOTBALL CLUB GROUNDS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Being a visitor to Lyttelton on Saturday last, and having a few minutes to spare, I strayed to the Recreation Reserve to witness the football match between the Second Fifteen of the Port Club and the Pirates First, who, I believe, journeyed from town. The ground was in a dreadful state from one end to the other, being one sheet of water and mud, frost also still lying on the side nearest the hill. I was greatly surprised at seeing the representatives of the above Clubs playing. This ground, lam told, is under the control of the Canterbury Rugby Union, and I consider that it is the duty of that body to see to its state immediately, or else football will take a downward step, playing football on a ground like this being impossible. My object for writing this letter ia that other footballers will know what to expect, and will also be well prepared for the large supply of mud, &c., that they will have to return with.—l am, &c.,. SPECTATOR.
