SWIMMING BATS FOR RICHMOND.

A meeting of the Committee appointed in conjunction with .the School Committee to procure a swimming bath for the Richmond district was held in the schoolroom, yesterday evening %. present-—Mr J. Abercrombie (Chairman), Messrs W. C. Fleming, J. Hughes, G. Petrie, T. E. Flesher, A. Hander, J. J, Anderson, J, G. Armitage, G. Mdae, jun,, W. A. Tribe, W. C. Shaw, Snowball, Bell, J. A. Flesher (Secretary) and C. S. Howard (Treasurer). In answer to a question, the Secretary stated that about £l2O had been already promised. Some of the canvassers had not sent in their returns, as they had not had time to canvass rffieir respective localities. Several of the Committee spoke in favour of offering special inducements for the youths of the district to support the bath, and on -the motion of Mr Mander. seconded by Mr Fleming, the following resolution was unanimously carried: "That any person subscribing 5s shall have the privilege of using the bathfor one year, 10s for two years, and M up to four years, above £5 a life membership.” A discussion took place on the advisableness of appointing a deputation to interview the City Council with respect to a grant. Ultimately it was decided, on the motion of Mr Mander, seconded by Mr W. C. Shaw—"That' a deputation, consisting of the Chairman, Messrs Mander, Shaw, Bell, Snowbell, Tribe and Howard should be appointed to wait upon the City Council to solicit a grant in aid of the proposed bath.” Mr Fleming proposed and Mr Milne seconded —“ That the Chairman and Messrs Flesher, Swann and Widdowaon should wait upon tho Canterbury Fire Insurance Association.” The names of Messrs W. H. Lawrence and W. A. Tribe wore added to the Committee. After some routine business had been transacted, a vote of thanks to the Chairman concluded the proceedings.
