WORK AND WAGES.

[Special to Pbess Association.] LONDON, June 20. The Miners’ Federation of Great Britain advises the miners to oppose all candidates who object to the eight hours limitation for work in mines. KNIGHTS OF LABOUR. The Jtawhiti Assembly held its weekly session in the Druids’ Hall on Wednesday evening. There was a largo attendance, the Master Yv orkman presiding. Two candidates were proposed for membership, and three initiated into the Order. A quantity of correspondence was received and dealt with, A draft scheme, to be presented to the Government, for the furtherance of the Land Settlement Bill, was forwarded from Napier to receive signatures. Copies of the scheme will be duly sent to all Unions, Assemblies, Friendly Societies, &c., for signature. A communication from the Association of Sub-Contractors was referred to a Committee to bring up a report. The Rev J. O’Bryen Hoare, having been asked to deliver an address on “ Man and hie Right to the Land,” at the next open meeting, consented to do bo. Bro A. Ilae, M.L.A., from New South Wales, was present as a visitor, and gave a very interesting address on the state of labour and other matters in the Australian Colonies. Bro Rae promised to address the Assembly at greater length on hia return from the North Island, which he is about to visit to obtain information relative to the special settlements. A hearty ‘ vote of thanks was accorded to him for his practical remarks, and the meeting closed. SHOP ASSISTANTS’ UNION. The weekly meeting of the Committee was held at the Trades Hall last evening, when there was a good attendance. Correspondence was read from the various centres of the Colony relating to the Half-holiday Bill, and was of a very satisfactory nature, showing that the various centres are working in unity for the one common object. Letters were also read from several M.H.E.’e of both sides of the House, agreeing to do all in their power to further the interests of the Bill. A number of new members were enrolled, and the meeting then closed.
