HEATHCOTE ROAD BOARD.
TO THE EDITOR. Sib,— For. the first time for some considerable period the members of the Heathcote Eoad Board have not a quiet sail into power; recent agitations in the district have brought forward some new blood into the field. I trust the electors who wish to see reformation will remember their pledges to-day, and break up that famous clique which has so long held its sway, and totally ignored their;wants and refused to give them redress. Fellowelectors of the reform party: New blood is in the field! We have the thin end of the wedge in now; by your actions to-day drive the whole wedge in, and instead of the reform party being id the minority, the tables will be turned, and you will receive proper attention to your wants. I could point out several inconsistencies in the way the Heathcote Eoad Board is earned out,-but-I will at present only allude to one, and ask how it is, in direct contravention of the Act, there are no ratepayers 1 rolls obtainable for the different wards. Claueb 43 of “ The Eoad Boards Act, 1882,” provides that when a Eoad District ia divided into subdivisions ” there shall, if there be a ratepayers' roll, be a separate ratepayers’ roll for each subdivision, instead of one for the whole district, and all the provisions herein contained for making tho roll of the district shall apply, mutatis mutandis , to making the roil for each subdivsion in a district.” How is it, then, that when applied for, these separate rolls are not obtainable, and more especially on the eve of an election ? The reason is glaring enough without my pointing it out. Electors do your duty, and this will be remedied.—-I am, &c., EEFOEMER.
