The match between the Rugby Union Selection Committee’s team and a fifteen picked by three well-known footballers was played on Saturday, and resulted in the Committee’s team being defeated by two goals and a try to a try. The play waa fast and open, and the passing was particularly good and there waa plenty of it. The forward play was none too brilliant, the losing team being on the whole behind its opponents. Ward was the best of tho selected backs, but Marshall and G. Horner were considerably out of form, while Balch and Wilson were uncertain. Humphreys and Thacker were the best of the forwards. For the others, Cresswell was much the beat three-quarter on the ground, his all-round play being of a high order. Uru did very well for a member of a junior team. Forbes was as much above the other half-backs as Cresswell waa in advance of the three-quarters. He was the only back engaged who could be trusted to collar an opponent. F. Horner played much better than he has done lately. Stokes, Leach and Haskins were the pick of the forwards. Ward scored the try for tho “selected,” while Uru and Cresswell each gained a try for the others, one of which the former converted. In addition, he kicked a grand goal from a mark secured about mid-field. CANTERBURY v. WELLINGTON.
