To-day Sir Thomaa Eamonde left by the Wainui for Samoa, where he will stay until the arrival at Tutuila of the steamer Zealandia, which is to sail from Auckland a fortnight hence, and he will then go on to San Francisco with Mr Dillon, who is to leave Auckland by the Zealandia. The liquidators of the Union Sash and Door Company have reported to the shareholders that there will be probably a credit balance of £207, which will yield a dividend of about 2d per share. WELLINGTON, Jan. 15. Hearn, who is to row Stephenson for the championship of the Colony, has resigned his membership in the Wellington Rowing Club, it being incompatible with his resumption of professional rowing to remain a member of an amateur Club. The Government have received a communication from the Government of New South Wales, asking what steps the New Zealand Government propose taking to guard against the introduction and spread of influenza. The matter is now under the consideration of the Government. DUNEDIN, Jan. 15. At a meeting called by the Social Reform Association to-night it was decided to raise a guarantee fund to defray the cost of a visit from Henry George, who will deliver lectures on land nationalisation. A Committee was appointed for the purpose. A deputation waited on the Hon T. W. Hislop to-day, urging that the Tramway Company should be compelled to run trains regularly on the Ocean Beach Railway, the amendment in the Public Works Act, by which the Company were enabled to purchase, providing for running at least six trains each week. The Minister promised to bring the matter before his colleagues. Mr P. E. M'Caughan has given .£SO to a fund which is being raised to make a presentation to Inspector Weldon. The Tarawera is expected back on Saturday from the Sounds. The second excursion will leave on Jan. 20, and the third on Jan. 29. They promise to be a great success, as both are filling up rapidly, and already over eighty passengers are booked for each trip.
