[Special to Press Association.] [Received Jan. IS, at 12.45 p.m.] SUICIDE OF AN ACTOE. SYDNEY, Jan. IS. News has been received here of the death of Phil Beck, the well-known actor. He committed suicide at Colombo, Ceylon, by shooting himself. SCIENCE SOCIETY. MELBOURNE, Jan. 15. Sir James Hector has been nominated as President of the Australasian Society for the Advancement of Science for the ensuing twelve months. [Received Jan. 16, at 1 a.m.] FEDEKATION CONFERENCE. BRISBANE, Jan. 15. Messrs Playford and Cockburn will represent South Australia, and SirJ. G. Le Steere Western Australia, at the Federation Conference next month.
