CRICKET.

TWELVE v. EIGHTEEN. The second day's play in the above practice match came o£E at Lancaster Park on Saturday afternoon, in splendid weather, and upon a perfect wicket. The scores stood at the start of the play :—The Eighteen, first innings, 132 ; the Twelve, first innings, 53. The former started their second innings, and kept their opponents in the field nearly the whole of the afternoon, the score standing at 155 when thelast wicket This comparatively small total was brought about mainly by the good all round fielding and bowling of the Twelve, and all the runs scored were thoroughly earned. H. M. Reeves claimed 38 obtained by firstrate cricket, such as was his wont to exhibit during last season, and we are glad to congratulate him upon bis long-post-poned return to form. Jones got 19 in a style of his own, and we should recommend him to cultivate a little more freedom and driving power in his batting. Pearse soon rattled up 14, and was shaping well when he hit all across a straight one. C. Ridley showed good form for 14, but was, if we mistake not, undoubtedly caught at the wickets before he had scored. Cohen was the only other double with 12 not out, but did not strike an onlooker as being quite comfortable attbe wickets. As stated above the bowling and fielding was above the average, Halley and Labatt especially trundling excellently. With half-an-hour to play the Twelve went in, and at the call of time had lost two wickets for 25 runs. Pearse again showed great promise as a bowler, sending down 48 balls for 4 runs and one wicket.
