ANNUAL PARISH MEETINGS .

HOLY TRINITY, AVONSIDE: The annual meeting of the parishioners of Holy Trinity Church, Avonside, was hold last night in the Avonside schoolroom. There was a good attendance. The incumbent (Eev W. Pascue) occupied the chair, and opened the proceedings with prayerThe Chairman congratulated those present on the condition of the church- The attendances had increased, and there were undeniable signs of increased spiritual life among the congregation. The number of children attending the Sunday School was growing larger, and though there haji lately been several additions to the roll of teachers, more were still wanted. Mr Dingle then presented the churchwardens’ report as follows: " The churchwardens have much pleasure in presenting to the parishioners the accounts of the church for the year ending March 31, 1887. The offertory shows an. increase of £l3 13s 3d, while the subscriptions are less by £lB 15s than those of last year. The bank overdraft now stands at £53 18s 3d, as compared with £Bl 13s 3d at this time last year. It must bb gratifying to parishioners to observe the steady decrease in this item, and it is to be hoped, that the efforts of the church officers will be supported as well in the future as in. the past, until the church account is in credit. It may also be mentioned that the total liabilities now stand at £176 8s 3d. against £231 17s lOd at the end of the last financial year. The thanks of the parishioners are "due to the members of the choir, the ladies, who have so generously assisted at the decorations, and to those who provided the good things- for the harvest festival tea meeting, Sunday school teachers, and other parochial workers.” The report was adopted. The election of church officers was then, proceeded with, and resulted as follows: — Incumbent’s churchwarden, Mr Denham ; parishioners’ churchwarden, Mr Jekyll; vestry, Messrs Wilkin, Hunt, Hill, Wright, Lee, Gard’ner, Jameson, Milner, Slater, and Davis; auditor, Mr Cuthbert. Votes of thanks were passed to the retiring church officers; to the ladies of the parish, who had worked so zealously.in various ways for the good of the church; to the Sunday school teachers; to the choirmaster (Mr Gard’ner) and members of the choir; and a special vote ’ was accorded to Mr Dingle for his untiring' exertions on behalf of the church for the past three years. •'. ' , . After various matters bad been suggested for the consideration of the incoming vestry, the meeting terminated with a vote* of thanks to the Chairman.
