HER MAJESTY’S JUBILEE MEMORIAL.
The proposal to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee here by the erection of a Home as proposed by Mr Halbert is finding very substantial encouragement. Mr D. C. Clarkson has sent his cheque for £SO, and quite a number of leading citizens and merchants have given promises of donations varying from the same amount to ten guineas The list, of such promises is rapidly extending in length. At the meeting of the Masonic District Grand Lodge of Canterbury, held on Thursday, it was decided that it wou'd be more consistent with the principles of the crafty —viz.. Benevolence and Charity that* the " Home ” proposal should be Masonically adopted as their form of celebrating Her Most Gracious Majesty’s Jubilee. It was also decided that the District Grand Master should issue lists to the various Lodges, and should call upon the members to contribute liberally. Furthermore, a notice of motion was given, to the effect that the District Grand Lodge should from its own funds vote a sum towards the same object. The District Grand Master intimated his intention to summon the brethren to assist on the day of the public demonstration, by attending in regalia, &c., and taking part in the procession, as also, if possible, attending the service which it is proposed to hold in the Cathedral previous to the procession starting. The Honorary Secretary of the Jubilee Celebration Committee has received replies to the Chairman’s circular from the Biccarton and Avon Eoad Boards, both of which promise their cordial co-operation in the collection of subscriptions and otherwise.
