[Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, April 19. A man answering to Grant’s description was seen,on the railway wharf on the night of April 11. He is now believed to have fallen over the wharf and been drowned. There is further Volunteer trouble in the No. 3 Battalion. The fire at Parnell this morning is believed to be toe work of an incendiary. This is the third time the block has experienced a fire of the same character as thti fires in the Mount Eden district. Intelligence has been received from San Francisco that Ferdinand Barth had left by wit! 10,000 dollars to the Auckland hospital. Barth has no relatives here, and so far os is known, never received any benefit from tbe institution. Major Green, Sheriff, died to-day. He had been in delicate health for some time, bat insisted notwithstanding on supervising toe execution of Caffrey and Penn, and has been declining ever since. Mr Graham, Relieving Officer, has resigned, because the Board interfered with his distribution of rations. Captain Preece, Resident Magistrate, is conducting an enquiry into the circumstances attending the death of Parsonage, who belted himself to death in gaol. PATEA, April 19. A store situated in Bedford street, owned by Mr M'Guire, of Hawera, and occupied by Bensley and Co., to be opened on April 23, was burned down this morning. The building was of little value. The stock, consisting of drapery, crockery, and sewing machines, was valued at £3O. So for as is known there is no insurance. The origin of the fire is a mystery. There had been no lights in the building since Tuesday last. WELLINGTON, April 19. What sum the Government will propose to be subscribed to the Imperial Institute is not yet decided. The Agent-General cables to the Government an invitation from the National Rifle Association of England to the New Zealand Rifle Association to send Home a team to Wimbledon on July 9, to compete for the Jubilee prizes. As the New Zealand Volunteers are not armed with the same weapons as toe English Volunteers, the sending of a team is out of the question. An accident occurred on the Buller road 13 miles from Westport this morning at a place where men are working making a road. A slip of thousands of tons came down, burying one man and breaking both legs of another. It- took two hours to rescue the latter, and the former is still buried. A doctor has just left for the scene. GREYMOUTH. April 19. ’ The glut in the labour market at Brunnerton and the neighbouring railway works, which was so prevalent lately, has disappeared, and all unable to find work have gradually drifted elsewhere. There are very few unemployed now, as the contractors have lately been putting on all the men they can get, as they are being kept up to time very strictly. DUNEDIN, April 19. Daring the session of Parliament the Union Steamship Company intend placing the Wanaka on special running between Lyttelton and the Manukau, leaving Lyttelton every Monday and the Manukau every Friday, calling at Wellington and New Plymouth. In order to permit the annual overhaul, and in view of the decreasing passenger traffic daring the winter, the fortnightly service between Sydney and Auckland mil be reverted to. A sculling match for .£25 a-side, over a three mile course, has been arranged between Palamonntain, who was second to Hearn at the Riverton regatta, and Mackley, who, through bis scull catching on a post, was prevented taking part in that race. The match takes place next Saturday. .
