MELBOURNE, April 19. : Mr M'Gowan, Deputy-Postmaster-General, who recently returned from Europe, died yesterday after a short illness. THE JUBILEE. Government have authorised the expenditure of £ISOO for the illumination of public buildings in connection with the Jubilee celebration. [Received April 20. at 1.30 o.m.] A CONFERENCE. • His Excellency Sir Henry Loch, Mr Gillies, the Premier, and Admiral Tryon conferred to-day regarding Victorian defences. The details of the interview have not yet transpired. ADMIRAL TRYON. Admiral Tryon will leave overland for Adelaide on Tuesday. THE EXHIBITION. The applications for space in the forthcoming Adelaide Exhibition will necessitate an increase in the size of the buildings as originally designed. THE MARKETS. The manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand reports as follows of the local market:—Wheat is at 3s lid to 4s, with a slightly improved tendency. Barley is at 4s 9d to 5s 6d, prices barely maintained. Oats (feed sorts), 2s 9d to 2s lOd, much steadier. Oats (milling sorts), at 2s lOd to 2s lid, steady. New Zealand oats, under bond, are at 2s to 2s Id, quiet. SHIPPING. SYDNEY. April 19, Arrived—Last night, Wakatipu, 5.9., from Brisbane.
