LINWOOD TOWN BOARD.

A, special meeting of the above Board was held on Monday last, at 7 p.m.; present— Messrs Jamieson, Atkinson, Hardie, Sergh and Toomer ((Chairman). Apologies were received for the absence of Messrs Goodman and Glen, the latter through illness. The following {resolutions were passed : “ That, by special order, a by-law be made for the prevention of the burial of nightsoil or other offensive matter within the town, district * that the said by-law shall come into operation on the 30th day of I April, 1885?;, that a special meeting for the purpose of confirming the above resolution be held on Tuesday, April 19, 1887, at 7 p.m.; that the Clerk be instructed to publicly notify the said resolution, in accordance with the Act;, that the proposed by-law be considered at the meeting to- be held at 7 p.m. on April 19-, and that a copy thereof open for inspection by the public during office hours at the Town Board Office.”— The ordinary meeting of the Board was then held, the same Commissioners being present. Correspondence was read : —Prom Charitable Aid Board, stating that their solicitor's opinion had been taken on the Board’s liability to pay rates on the Female Eefnge to the effect that, being Crown property, it was not rateable. It was decided to consult this Board’s solicitor on the point. Prom the Poundkeeper, stating that a horse had been rescued from him by some boys in Hereford street on March 19, and asking for the Board’s assistance in the matter. Besolved—- “ That the letter be left in the hands of the Chairman and Clerk to make enquiries and to take action. if the evidence warrants it.” Prom the Drainage Board, asking to be furnished with the valuation of the district for the current year. The Clerk was instructed to supply the information. The Works Committee presented their report, and recommend that tenders be invited for shingle, broken metal, and Kaiapoi grit, tenders to be in by next Board day. It also suggested that several orders should be made to cut willows and gorae, &o. The report was adopted. The Clerk _ was instructed to write to the police, them to take action to suppress the nuisance arising from the herding of cattle on the public roads, and to apply to the Drainage Board for pipes to lay a culvert under the Canal Eeserve. The receipte since JS* meeting were reported to be 16a 8d; debtor balance at Bank, J!80 Cs sd. After passing accounts, the meeting itself into the local Board of Health. There was only one letter to deal with front a resident, complaining of the inattention of the nightmen. The Inspector reported that the matter had received attention. The Inspector’s report was read and adopted. The Clerk was instructed to write Mr Brightling re leakage from his night-carts. The meeting then terminated.
