BOARD OF EDUCATION.

An ordinary meeting of the Board of Education was held yesterday afternoon; present—Mr G. Booth (in the chair), and Messrs Cunningham, Chryetall, Anson, Weston, Saunders, Peryman and Montgomery. An apology was read from Mr Bowen. CHAIRMAN'S BEHCET. A The expenditure sanctioned by the Chairman since the last meeting was reported and confirmed. APPOINTMENTS COMMITTEE.. The Appointments Committee submitted an abstract of what they had done since the last meeting. Mr Saunders made an explanation of one of the appointments. The Board approved of the report. BUILDINGS COMMITTEE. The report of the Buildings Committeewas read and approved. WEST CHRISTCHURCH. The Chairman said that the West Christchurch School Committee had applied for a grant of JMO, to supplement an amount of iB6O, which had been contributed by the parents and others. The Building. Committee did not see their way to recommend the grant being made. The Board agreed with this view. ELECTION OP COMMITTEES* Mr Saunders moved—" That all Stand-

ing Committees, such as Appointments, Buildings, Finance, Normal School, and Books, be annually elected by ballot at the first meeting of the Board in the month of April.” Mr Weston seconded the motion, which was agreed to. BANGIORA HIGH SCHOOL. Mr A. H. Cunningham was re-elected a member of the Rangiora High School Board, on the motion of Mr Saunders, seoondedhy Mr Peryman. KAIAPOI NATIVE SCHOOL. An invitation for the Board to attend Hie concert, &c ,of the children attending the Native School at the Kaiapoi Pah was read, but the Board regretted that it had been opened too late for them to be able to avail themselves of it. ACCOUNTS. The accounts of the various School Committees, as audited by the Provincial Auditor, were laid upon the table. Mr Ollivier reported that the accounts of one Committee were not decipherable. Several Committees had sent no accounts. NOBMAL SCHOOL. Mr Malcolm wrote, recommending the appointment of a sewing mistress for the Model School, The matter was referred to the ' Normal School Committee. pupil teachers’ agreements. It was ordered that the seal of the Board should be attached to several pupil teachers’ agreements. This closed the business.
