SPBINGS. •*.■ The regular meeting'of this/Board wastheld on Tuesday, July 27; present—Messr* Gammack (in the chair), Chamberlain, Herrick, Pannett and Tod. Correspondencewas read .—From the Charitable Aid Board, forwarding copiea of resolution passed at a. united meeting of the Ashburton and North Canterbury Boards, and asking the co-operation of the Board in the matter. The matter was dealt with last Board day by the resolution sent to the Council. —From the Eakaia Boad Board, requesting the co-operation of the Board with others, in getting a sum placed on theEstimates for a bridge across the Selwyn at the railway. Besolved—" That the letter be acknowledged, and the Board informed that, as it is,a subject that only affects a very few of the ratepayers of the district, the Board do nob feel inclined to take any action in the matter."—From . the Tai Tapu Board, forwarding list of tenders for clearing the Halswell river, and enclosing account for previous contract.— From the Selwyn County Council! enclosing cheque for £2.2 12s 3d, dog fees.— From the Commissioner of the Property tax Department, stating that he had looked - over the matter of including the School of Agriculture in the valuation roll, and saw no reason for altering his opinion, and stating that the roll placed cbefor&'&aeBoard of Be viewers was not a valuation roll, but simply a statement of proposed values.—From ,Mr F. fl". Brittin, requesting the Board to assist in drainingthe water off Leigh's road, and cleaning the drain on Marshall road. Thematter was left for the Clerk to deal with.— Complaints having been made to the Board. that the dam at the Lincoln mill had again, broken away, the Board, on considering; the matter, resolved —" That Mr Early b& informed that the Board will not allow any obstruction to be placed in the river."'—Mr G. Baker waited upon the Board, and requested that the soil taken out of Quarterley's drain be removed. On consideration of the matter, it was resolved—" That 9ft betaken off the land adjoining, by the Board,, and that any soil remaining on Mr Baker's land be removed."—Survej or*s report read:. —Besolved—"That the Chief Commissioner be requested to have a piece of land near the Selwyn proclaimed a reserve for. river conservation purposes; thafcMr Palmer's application for drain to\ bedeepened, be granted upon payment 'pt half cost of same by applicant; that'a. small drain be made near Mr Blakemore's to assist in carrying off flood- thathalf a bushel of wheat be given to ratepayers, and that the Clerk would be willingto poison wheat brought by those requiring: more, gratis; that permission be given by the Clerk to persons wishing to burn gorseon the roads."—The Clerk was instructed to issue gorse notices to several persons" having gorse- on, their roads.—Accounts, amounting to £193 2a 2d, were passed forpayment.—Besolved—" That £6OO placed on fixed deposit, and maturing on August1, be placed to current account."
