The cost of the Riel rebellion is stated in the official report of the Minister of Militia, presented to the Canadian Parliament, to be 4,700,000d015. The casualties wer e—killed, twenty-six; wounded, two hundred and six. The letters posted in England and Wales in 1885 amount to 1,148,000,000, In Scotland the number was 123,000,000, and in Ireland 89,000,000. No less than 160,000,000 post cards were delivered in ' the United Kingdom last year. The newspapers posted numbered 144,000,000.
