RAILWAY LEAGUE.

♦ A meeting took place last evening of the St Albans Branch Committee of the League, Mr John Eountree in the chair. Mr Neill moved and Mr Neate seconded, and it was resolved unanimously—" That Mr John Eountree be elected Chairman of the Branch Commitee of the Eailway League for St Albans." Mr Neill moved, and it was resolved nem con —" That Mr Neate be vice-Chairman." Eesolved—"That Mr G. Capper be Secretary of the St Albans Branch of the Railway League." " That Mr Penteney be the Treasurer of the Branch of the League." A strong Committee was then appointed from among those present, and' it was resolved that the Committee should call a meeting in Merivalo at an early date. Members came forward in large numbers and enrolled themselves, taking their medals. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chair.

A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Eailway League took place yesterday afternoon at four o'clock. Correspondence was read and dealt with. The financial statement was presented and passed. A proposal of Mr W. B. Perceval for the meeting on Monday next was adopted, as follows: —"That in the opinion of this Committee no Canterbury representative in the Houses of Parliament should belong to or join any Ministry which, does not insist upon the speedy construction of the East and West Coast and Nelson Eailway, and in the event of a general election, that, every candidate should be asked to pledge himself to the above effect."

The publication of the pamphlet in all its details was considered, and resolutions passed to ensure its speedy and correct, appearance. It was resolved that Beefton, Greymouth, and Hokitika be asked to contribute to the funds of the League for the issue of the pamphlet, which is for our mutual benefit. Alter preparing the programme for the meeting on Monday next, the meeting adjourned.
