Messrs H. Mats as asd Co. oonduotod their atujl sales on baturday. At Tattersall's the catalogue exhibited 137 horses ot various descriptions. There was a very large attendance „©f the pablio daring the sale, with very fair competition for the best desctiptions. A largo number of the animals toand sew quarters at various values. At their dairy stoek sale quite a crowd of buyers assembled, and for tno 20 dairy miloh oowii and springers the competition ran high. From £lO, £l2, £l3, £l4 to £ls par bead were* common values for the best description*. At tboir laud auoiion atSo'olooka fair catalogue of properties was offered under the hammer, only a few ot which were exchanged, 128 a aura (arm betwesn the Hinds and Bangitata was pas«ed in at £5138, and several country and town properties met tho some fate, ono only going by auction at £iX).
Messrs Matsov, Cox and Co. report upon the lire stock market at Asbburton for the week ending April 3 as follows:-At tha Asbburton County Baleyards they held their usual weekly sale of sheep, oattle, and pigs, Ac, Ac. There was a very large attendance of farmers, dealers, and other*, and fur ail classes ot siook an Improved demand was experienced, resulting in a oUaranos of every Hue entered with us. In sheep the entry was good, but, with a few exceptions, the quality waa of aa inferior class; still everything offered elicited keen competition, selling at full values as per description. In oattle tho tew linos ot good young (ceres on offer were purchased at a considerable advance on late rates. Our total entry (or tho dsy consisted ot 3691 sheep, 82 rams, 84 head of cattle, and 116 pigs for Messrs J. Grlyg, W. btraohau, O, Digby, George Coo, H. T. Smith, Lee and Co., W, Wilkinson, D, Cameron, W. *aanders, G. P. HoatttiD, end others. Merino wether*. »88 at 9s 63 j 89 neriuo wethers,6s 3d; 199 merino ewes,Bsj 191 do, 3s -id; 294 merino ewes, 3s 2d j 350 at 4a 3d; 423 at 4s 6d; 76 otoBS-brods, Us 7d j 139 do, 14* 2d; 75 do, l*s 6d j 822 cross-bred lambs, tin; 17/ do, 108 3d, Ac, fto. In oattle we sold 4 at £5 19s, 1 at £5 15s, 3at £sl2s 64,8 at £3l7s Hi, 7at £2lss; cows, £2l7s fid to £7l7s 6d; 14 young cattle at £llss. In pigs, wo sold SO slips, 8s to Bs.eaoh, aad 80 porkers at £ls Gd tach. In rams, we sold tor Mr John Gri'ir 25 head-1 at£3 SsOd, U at £2l9s, Bat £2,2 at, £2. On aooount otothor owners, we sold 8 Lincoln rams at £1 2s 6d each; 8 ram lambs at £l ss. We note an Improved demand for farm property in eligible positions. At the fortnightly sales held at Amberley from Jan. 8 to AprU 6,61,869 sheep have been submitted for sale.
