[Bbotba’s Tbueobahs.] MELBOURNE, Nov. 24. la the Legislative Assembly to-day, the Bill to legalise the totalisator was rejected by a majority of six. SYDNEY, Nov. 24. At to-day’s sitting of the Conference of Committees of ( the Legislative Council and Assembly, for the consideration of the Influx of Chinese Restriction Bill, the question of a £lO poll tax upon all Chinese coming into the Colony by land was discussed at length, and the representatives of the Council ultimately agreed to accede to the dflmqnd of the Assembly for the retention of clauses providing for the imposition of the tax. The match between the English team and twenty-two of Maitland was concluded at that town to-day, and resulted in a draw in favour of the Englishmen. ADELAIDE, Nov. 24. Arrived, this morning—Orient steamship Cotopaxi, from Plymouth. Sir George Gamine Strahan, Governor of Tasmania, is a passenger by her.
