[Pea Psxss Absooiatioh.] AUCKLAND, Nor. 24, An inquest was hold to-day on David Elder, at the Lunatic Asylum, who died of acute mania. A verdict of “ Natural Causes ” was returned. He had tried to strangle himself several times. - A tender for the erection of a new Auckland savings bank has been accepted at £6098. Owing to the bank’s large surplus reserves the Directors propose to lend money out on mortgage at the reduced rate of 7 per cent, in order to benefit the working classes. At a meeting of the Wesleyan Home Mission, the report stated that the amount collected in Auckland amounted to £176.

The charge against P. Wrisbmer, of Awatu, who was prosecuted by a Native for maliciously wounding bis horse by shooting it, was dismissed, with cod# against the Maori. TIMABU, Nov. 24. A quantity of wreckage is reported on the beach some miles south of Timaru. No particulars are yet to hand. Mr J. 8. Gibson has consented to contest the Timaru electorate for tho Assembly. Mr J. Clements, a candidate forWaimate, received a vote of thanks last night.

DUNEDIN, Nor. 24. The Eooles Hotel, at Naseby, was burnt down on Tuesday. It was insured in tho Victoria Office for £2OO.

Two cottages at Oaversharu were burned down this morning. The fire was caused by the explosion of a kerosene lamp at 10 o’clock last night. The neighbours thought they had put the fire out, but at 3 o'clock flames burst out and spread with rapidity, some of the inmates getting severely burned in -effecting their escape. Mr Morrison’s house, in which the fire started, was insured for £2OO, and Hobson's, adjoining, for £276, in tho National.
