LATIMER SQUARE.

TO THE KDITOB. Sir, Tour correspondent,' “ Cricketer,” has done a public good in drawing attention to the present state and former use made of this square. All the families in the district will agree with him that the City Surveyor should report to the Council the uneven and untidy state of the surface, and should seize this opportunity (with perhaps a contribution from the Drainage Board) to spend sufficient money in laying the square down as a lawn. When this is done, I appeal to the City Councillors, on behalf of the 50 or 100 families residing near, to have the courage to pass a by-law to abate the nuisance caused by the indiscriminate use ol this square as a cricket ground. The. public do not grudge cricketers the use of Hagley Park, but this nice piece of grass in the middle of the town should be left to the quiet use of the children in the neighbourhood. If the people who have been in the habit of playing cricket in the square want to play in the town let them barricade one of the s' reels! or let me suggest any of the asphalted crossings in Cathedral square laid with matting!! I myself saw a gentleman struck on the side of the jaw with a cricket ball so severely as to knock out two of his teeth, and I am certain that there must have been many an accident of a similar nature. There can be no doubt, Mr Editor, Latimer square is not the place for cricket, and it only wants your pen as an exponent of public opinion, to induce the City Council to move in the matter. —I am, &c., PLUTU3. Latimer square, Eeb. 12.
