BATHING IN THE HEATHCOTE.

TO THE EDITOB. Sib, —l noticed in the columns of the newspapers a short time ago that the Police were taking steps towards stopping bathing in the river Heathcote. Can you tell me whether they are going to stop it, or are the householders near the river and passers by to take ti e law into their own hands ? It is something disgraceful that a female cannot look outside her own door, on Sunday especially, without beholding a number of youths and men walking about in their nudity; and when they are reasoned with, they will use the moat profane language. It has become dangerous for a female to walk near the banks of that beautiful river on a Sunday afternoon. 1 trust that steps will soon be taken by the proper authorities to stay the plague.—l am, &c., Christchurch, Feb.. 9. TRAVELLER. TO THE EDITOB. Sib, —Would you allow me through the agency of your columns to state the opinion of many people re bathing in the Heathcote ? This bathing place is 200 yards west of the bridge, and covered in with weeping willows, so that no person could possibly see through the willows from the bridge. And again, they say at “unseemly hours.” How can this be when persons never bathe until after 6.30 p.m. ? and this I know from my own personal observations. . Now let all those persons that are afraid of a little drop of water keep at home (so long as they are not interfered with), and let those that do like having their dip have it. Apologising for so much space,—l am, &c., FRESHWATER.
