The usual monthly meeting of this Board was held at Leech’s old store, Charles street, Kaiapoi, on Friday last j prerant-Httessra Coup (Chairman), Mathews,Pamham, Pashby, and Wearing. _ . . Considerable dissatisfaction was expressed by the members present at;':Messrs 'Scott Bros, not keeping their promise to deliver the whole of the machinery by the. end of January last. > Mr Linklater stated, that Messrs Scott. Bros, had promised to deliver the whole material on Tuesday, Feb.lß. i Mr Wearing said, as. this was the last meeting of. the present Board, he thought that they had .better enter into no further agreement with Messrs Scott Bros. - He waa thoroughly disgusted with that-firm-for| the; disgraceful way they had broken their. oon-i tract. M*r Pashby wished to propose a hearty; vote .of thanks to Mir Wearing for the trouble hO had taken in doing the work of the Board, r and more especially for finding them in office; accommodation, lighting, Ac., free of charge; He thought that the district generally was very much indebted to Mr Wearing for whathe had done. Mr Mathews seconded t he resolution, which was carried unanimously. ’> ; Resolved, on the motion of Mr Wearing,“Thata cordial vote of. thanks be given to the Chairman (Mr Coup), for the services rendered by him during his . term of office; He had not only acted as Chairman, but had done the whole work of both Secretary and Treasurer. • ‘

Seconded by Mr Pamham, and carried unanimously. Mr Coup, 'in returning thanks, said that ho was very sorry to see that all their time and trouble had been utterly wasted. : He knew r.w. what had been done had hot met with the approval of the townspeople of Eaiapoi, but he thought' that they hiad' done all that was. possible with the limited funds at their command. Ho sincerely hoped that the hew Board would be able to do better, and get some sort ef endowment from the Government, to enable them, to do the work properly. . ; Mr Wearing briefly returned thanks for the vote passed to him. _ ’ It was resolved that the Chairman here- 1 quested to call a meeting of the Board for Friday next, at the usual hour.
