GLASGOW RELIEF FUND.
TO THB BDITOB OP THE LYTTELTON TIMES. Sib,— ln tout report of the meeting at the Music Hall last night, you make me say that in the case-of-Waimate Relief Fund I had received only 275, and that too late to be of use.' My remark was this —“Apropos of church aid, 1 had on that occasion asked for the aid of the Christian churches by the devotion of their evening contributions to the relief of their neighbours, and the result was the receipt of only 27s from a district nearly 60 miles away." If the need of help in the present case is really BO' great as it is said to be,it seems to me like closing the door of Christian charity, if we are to tell the congregations that our local requirements in the shape of Maori or Melanesian Missions, Church Extensions, Lighting, or any other purposes of which the ohuroh stands in need, are to take precedence of suffering humanity. So for my part I say, let us have all, by the special gut of the people or none. If there is to-be a division of the offering, better leave the free gift to come through the ordinary outside influence. I am, &c., J. OLLIYIEB.
