lijtMtu Timus Offlee, Friday Evening. GRAIN AND PRODUCE. The we Hirer during the week his been very stormy, which bus, to a certain extent, retarded shipping operations aud deliveries of produce from farmers. Wheat.—Several small parcels have been placed for forward delivery at last week’s rates, which we again repeat as buyers’ quotations. Oats,—The improved inquiry (speculative) that existed last week, has not resulted in any second hand sales of any magiii ude, and as stocks are very heavy, we have no alteration to note in values. Account s.ilcr, have been received from Melbourne, showing net returns of one shilling and flvopencu and live-sixteenths per bushel. This shows a largo loss to the exporter. Barley.—This cereal is very much depressed, and

there appears but little prospect of the morko rallying. Wo have been shown private advioos from Sydney, bearing date July 20, from which wo extract the following“ Earley.—Wo can find no prospect whatever of selling it in this market. The cargo of the William Turner was open for purchase at 2s 6d per bushel, but the best offer obtainable was only 2s; the importers would have sold at 2s 3d." When freight and other charges are taken into consideration, wo leave our readers to judge what tho not result would bo to tho exporter. Potatoes.—Tho season being so far advanced, farmers find tho greatest ditflmlty in placing them at anything approaching last week’s prices, and there appears to bo every probability of tho market going lower unless some outside demand should sot in. There is an absence of export orders, which, as n rulo, aro usually plentiful at this time of the year. Tho shipments that aro being made are purely speculative. Dairy Produce.—Cheese and butter aro unchanged in value, but little business is doing in either article. Hams and Bacon remain at late rates, viz., 9d bare, ami bid covered, both f.o.b. in Lytieltou. Flour.—Millers have advanced tho price to £ll in sacks since August 1 —demand moderate. Bran and shams are in less demand, but there is no alteration to noto in millers’ quotations. Buyers’ quotations for delivery at Christchurch aro —Wheat, 4s to Is 3d; oats, Is 8d to Is Sd barley, nominal; potatoes, 27s Gd to 30s, nominal butter, Is to Is Id ; cheese, Sd to 8J(1.
