Tauno, from Northern Ports, is advertised to sail South this afternoon. She loft Wellington at:! pm. yesterday. The brigantine iea Bird, which has lately become the property of Mr C. W. Turner, oE Christchurch, is laid on tho berth for the Chatham Islands, and is to sail about Wednesday nest. The s.s. She sailed for Port Chalmers, tho Blulf, and Melbourne at 4.30 p.m. yesterday. . , . _ , . , A telegram was received in Port yesterday announcing that tho harmio Mary Ann knnisou, which left Newcastle on July 1, had taken shelter from the heavy southerly weather iu Port Underwood, and that she was to resume her voyage for this port on Thursday morning. This was a relief to many persons, who were becemiug auxious as to the whereabouts of Captain Hughes. No doubt the gale of yesterday would drive him back for shelter again. The weather yesterday morning was beautifully hue, tho early part being light north-west, which shifted into the sou'.h with a gentle bro.'xo, About noon, however, there were all indications of a heavy blow coming on, and at 12.30 p.m. it commenced to blow in earnest, increasing iu violence to a furious southerly gale, which soon knocked up a heavy sea iu the harbour. Tho sea broke over both breakwaters iu great cl mis of spray, and a considerable portion of the extreme end of the Naval Point one sank down below the water. This, however, will very soon be made good, as, when the new work settles in this way, it always makes for itself a very firm bed. Up to six o'clock, when our express left, there were no signs of the gale abating, and no particular damage had been done, except the disappearance of the old hulk Federation, which was partially broken up, mid lyiug outside the breakwater, and the dragging of one or two of tho small craft. Such a heavy gale had not been felt since last winter.

SHIP CITY OP DUBLIN, PROM LONDON. This -ship was signalled at 9.30 a.m. yesterday, and, there being a light southerly breeze at the time, the Titan, tug, wont down at 11.30 a.m. to bring her up. Shortly after noon, however, the wind freshened considerably, and increased to a furious southerly gile, against which it would have been impossible for any tug to have brought a largo ship up the harbour. At 3 p.ra. bor signal was hauled down, denoting that she bad anciored just outside the Heads. Of course it was impossible to communicate with the ship in such wi ather as wc had yesterday. The Gi'y of Dublin left Loudon on April 28, so she has made the paasa'C in ninety eight days. She brings a. large and valuanle cargo, of which we give a list, and is consigned to the New Zealand -shipping Company. The Titan returned at 5.30 p.m. from the ship, which was anchored about four miles from the Heads, and reported all well on board. PORT OF LYTTELTON.
