The steamers Hawea (for North) and Beautiful Star (for South) sailed yesterday afternoon, SHIP WAIKATO. ‘ This fine vessel, belonging to the New Zealand Shipping Company, cleared the Customs last night for Wellington, with a part cargo for London, bhe will complete her loading at the last-named port. Some days since, attention was called to the way the Shipping Company were poshing forward the discharge and loading of their vessels In our port, a fact which redounds much to their credit. The Waikato arrived in pqgA on Oot. 3. After discharging her immigrants and passengers’luggage, she was berthed at the Gladstone Pier and commenced to discharge her inward cargo. Daring this process, considerable delay occurred owing to her having to be reberthed and take the Lutterworth’s place, and more than one day was lost through want of trucks. Despite this, the vessel discharged over 1000 tons of cargo without damage, and took in 300 tons of grain and forty tons of flour during the time she was berthed- Capt. Caboame takes command of the ship as far as Wellington. She sails to-day. TELEGRAPH NOTICE BOARD. DtPAJiTPaxa.
