RAILWAY FARES.
TO THE EDITOR OP THE LYTTELTON TIMES
Sib, —Will you allow me a small space in your widely circulated paper to complain of an act of injustice perpetrated by those who ought to set an example of strict justice between all parties. L. allude to the fares charged on the Southern Line of railway. Does the above line pay so little interest on the original cost, that the authorities are under the necessity of hiking undue advantage in order to make it pay, or why are persons entering the train at Parish’s for Christchurch charged the same fare as if they started from Templeton, or if for the Selwyn, the same fare as from the Factory, or joining the train at Weeden fqr Christchurch, the same fare as from Rolleston ; if for the Selwyn, the same fare as from Templeton, which is four miles back ? Is it such a, great favour to be allowed to join the train between the stations, which, in the latter case, are six miles asunder, that persons are expected to pay extra fare ? Tour obedient servant, A TRAVELLER.
