BREAD.

TO THE EDITOR OP THE LYTTELTON TIMES. Sir, —Will you permit me to state the following facts ? I have, per advertisement, offered the 41b loaf for 6|d, full weight guaranteed. Since that advertisement, I have been called on several times by a deputation of bakers (Messrs Holmes and Severn), and told that if I persist in selling at that price, the bakers of Christchurch are determined to crush me.

They have offered to buy my trade and clear me out, or I am to accept the alternative, namely, that the bakers of Christchurch will supply Thomson, my neighbour, with 20 loaves each, at 4d a loaf , to drive me out of the business.

Will the public of Christchurch support me at that price, for a pure loaf and fair profit, or those bakers that have combined to crush me, and then to raise their bread to the present extortionate price ? Your obedient servant, J. BROWN. Christchurch, June 26,1872.
