Hewitt, Harris, and Bird won all the prizes, for which there was a good competition. Tbe Saucy Lass is supposed to have been lost during the recent gales. The Wangarei has arrived, but there is no appearance of the missing schooner Twilight. The St. Kilda arrived from Wanganui to-day, and sails on Saturday. Tbe James Pa tteson sailed for the Fijis today with 20 passengers and a full cargo. During the last 24 hours the Caledonian mine brought up 30 owt of rich specimens. Another dividend of £l2 is payable on Monday. Shares have advanced to £lO7 i Ob. Thames shares are selling at £2O; Tookey’s, £8; Belfasts, 375; Junctions, 40s; Cures; 9s; Euranui, 60s. A telegram from Captain Fairchi-d states that the Luna arrived at Greymouth this morning. Had very stormy weather after leaving the Bluff. The Luna was off Martin’s Bay for three days ; no landing could be effected, and she had to run out to sea on account of the gales. The Governor will not be ready to leave Greymouth before Thursday. The Taranaki arrived yesterday about noon. Nelson, April 17, 9.20 p.m. The third contract made by Mr Vogel with Webb and Holladay, at Washington on March 7, is reported as differing from that made with Stewart, their agent, chiefly in that it is far a shorter period, and that the boats will not go to Sydney, if they go down the New Zealand coast. The subsidy is the same. The Nevada leaves San Francisco on April >, going along the coast to Dunedin. The other vessels will take the same route if practicable, “ Refusal subsidy by Congress.” (?) The Caledonian has lodged for the fortnight 13,665 ounces, independent of specimens now in the B»nk containing 500 ounces. A dividend of £l2 was declared. 1 Harris and Bird, champion pedestrians, are passaengers by the Phoebe for Canterbury, where they will peform. Hewitt will follow by the Taranaki.
