PUBLIC MEETING AT WAIMATE.

The Mowing resolutions were passed at a public meeting of the electors and ratepayers of tiie Waimate district held on Oct. 19, Mr being chairman That this meeting, having had under its consideration the Timaru and Gladstone Board of Works Act, is of opinion 1. That while approving generally of the Local Government Act introduced into the House of Representatives, the Timuru and Gladstone Act nov passed is of so different a character that, instead of being a benefit to the district, it will prove disadvantageous to the interests of the inhabitants. 2. That in the specific appropriation of the debentures to be made over by this Act, the important claims of the Waiinate district have been completely ignored. 3. That this meeting also desires to record its protest against the injustice of the Wai®ate Road Board being forced to come under this Act, without its being optional on the part of the majority of the ratepayers to join or not. That copies of the above resolutions be forwarded by the chairman of this meeting to the Colonial Secretary and his Honor tie 3 oupermtendont.
