LYTTELTON SEA-WALL AND JETTY.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE UTTELTON TIMES. Sir,—Through the medium of your journal, I wish to offer a few suggestions to the Government with reference to the seawall and jetty. Ist. I would suggest that the resolution of the Council to call for engineering skill, should be adopted without dtlay. 2nd. That no further work should be undertaken under the superintendence of the present Provincial Engineer. 3rd. That the contractors for the sea-wall be compelled to take down the temporary tramway from the jetty to the hillside, and then allow that portion of the Government Wharf to be used, and in some degree diminish the monopoly now enjoyed by Messrs Peacock and Co., whose interest is best served by the Government Wharf being blocked up with the material supplied by them to the contractors. 4th. That the cesspool now formed between Norwich Quay and the so-called sea-wall be filled up without delay, and by that means

save the town from an affliction that mmt necessarily follow in the shape of fever, f roia the fact that the whole of the drainage of tag town is accumulating in this spot. Trusting you will give space for the above I remain, ' Your obedient servant, LYTTELTON.
