The Overland Hoad. — The Hokitiki Evening Star of Feb. 9 publisher the follow ing paragraph : "Mr. Mitchell, road manage for Cobb & Co., the coach proprietors arrived in Hokitika, last night, from Christ church, and to him we are indebted for tin following particulars of the progress of thi road, and the projected operations of his firm With the exception of the Taipo bridge ant one or two small intervals near tlx Rocky point on the Taip>, in Mr Blake's contract, the overl'ind road is 8( far advanced that its completion for coacl traffic is promised in five week* from thi< date; and we are assured that, when completed it will bear comparison with any road, eitliet in New Zealand or Victoria. A great oversight has, however, been committed by .the Government in not finishing the road at once as far as Hokitika, as at present it terminates at the mouth of the' Arahura, between which and the town, the beach is the only line of communication. Immediately on the opening of the road for traffic, viz., in six weeks, Messrs. Cobb and Co. commence running their coaches bi-weekly between Hokitika and Chrixtchuroh; doing the through journey of 176 miles- in two days, and charging a fare of £8. From the satisfactory manner this firm have hitherto conducted their operation*, we Inve no doubt but that the enterprise will be a successful one; and as SMtisfac ory to the public as to the proprietors."
