Lyttelton Times Office, Nov. 24,

The advices received by this mail of the state of the London money market, forbid the hope that the debentures of this province will be floated for some time to come. The rate of discount at the Bank of England is nine per cent., consequently colonial loans bearing six per cent, interest are entirely out of the market. In proof of this, wo may mention that the London agent for the colony of Queensland, issued tenders on the 31st August, for £270,000 of their 6 per cent, loan at par, which is a reduction on previous limits. At the departure of the September mail, only £33,000 had been disposed of. The agent for New South Wales called for tenders for 100,000 Treasury Bills due Ist January, 1868, bearing interest at six per cent.; the said bills to be receivable by the Government in payment for taxes and Crown lands. In answer to this application tenders were received for only £9200 at rates varying from 95 to 99. These offers were refused by the Bank of New South Wales as being below the limit fixed. It will be readily understood from the facts, that the chance of disposing of Canterbury six per cent, debentures is remote.

Messrs. Hargreaves and Go. held a sale by Auction yesterday at Mr. Mitchell's stores, Lyttelton, and

sold a largo quantity of furniture, engravings, china, and earthenware imported by Mr. D. Davis in the Wm. Miles and other recent arrivals. The attendance was good, and many of the lots realized fair prices.

Otago.—Tho Daily Times of the 21st reports:-—

Tho mail loaving late on Friday, left traders inclined to postpono anything of importance until Monday. Wo have little to report, therefore, except that a demand for provisions has arisen for shipment to Nelson. Flour remains nominally as beforo, but no inclination on tho part of buyers. Tho ensuing week will probably opon with activity.

OAMAttU.—'The Oamaru Times of the 17th inst. has tho following commercial intelligence ■

Tho extromely wot weather at the end of last week and beginning of tho presont, lias done much to provont traffio on the roads. A good many drays, however, are loading up with supplies for tho stations for shearing purposes, and a little wool has como in from tho Waitaki. In a very few days, should tho weothor prove as favourable as it now promises, sheep-shearing will bo generally proceeded with; and we are enabled to state that tho quantity of wool that will bo shipped at Oamaru this season, will not bo less than 6500 bales, probably more. Tho grain market is in a very quiet state, tbero boing now nothing but oats in the hands of growers, and these remain at about our last quotations. Wheat and barley, there are none in the market. Flour shows symptoms of a further rise in price, and may bo quoted at from £30 to £35 per ton of 2000 lbs. Oats, 5s 3d to 5s 6d per bushel of 401bs.
