CHRISTCHURCH LIVE STOCK MARKET.
Mr. W. D. Barnard reports as follows, for the week ending Saturday, July 11, 1863: — A fair amount of business was done, but principally in light harness and saddle horses. At the close of the week a shipment of good draught horses arrived, ex s.s. Lady Bird, from Otago, which realised from £50 to £84 per head. They were much superior to the general class of horses hitherto offered for sale, and consequently the prices are considerably higher than last reported. Other shipments of the same or a superior class would well repay importers. Fourteen draught horses fetched from £40 to £84; seventeen saddle and light harness ditto, from £20 to £38. Duty collected at the Port of Lyttelton from the 3rd day of July to the 13th day of July, inclusive £ s. d.
