LYTTELTON MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.

The Council held their weekly meeting on Friday the 26th ult., at the Police Court. All the members present except Mr. Genet. After reading and confirming the minutes of the previous sittings, the Town Clerk read several letters. One from the Provincial Government informing the Council that they would advance the necessary funds for building the Town Hall, &c., under certain conditions. Also, one from the City Council, inviting the members of the Lyttelton Municipality to join in the Procession on the 9th July, in honor of the Marriage of H. R. H. the Prince of Wales. The Chairman was directed to address a reply accepting the invitation. The Committee for the Municipal Estate brought up their first report, and considerable discussion followed. Advertisements are to be issued inviting tenders for the frontages in Oxford street, each section to have 20 feet on the street. A report from the Fire Brigade was received, asking for £40 to provide permanent uniforms. Report agreed to.

Mr. It. Davis, M.P.C., addressed a letter to the Council, desiring to be informed of the amount required by the Municipality for public works during the ensuing year. The Chairman was directed to reply to Mr. Davis, and also to draw the attention of the other members to the subject.

The Council gave permission for the trees and commemoration stone to be placed in the Market square on the occasion of celebrating the Prince of Wales' Marriage.

The Council ordered tenders to be invited for planting, fencing, and trenching the new hospital grounds at once; also for the guttering on the south side of London street, and asphalting the west and north sides. Wishart and Ashworth's tender of £612 was accepted for repairing and widening Sumner road. Mr. D'Oyly was appointed Solicitor to the Council. Accounts for over £261 were ordered to be paid, and the Council adjourned.
