On V^qdnesday last, we said that the prospects of .tin's province, with respect to its representation were not gloomy, although plenty of warnings had been given us byrecent elections in different parts of New Zealand. The election for our chief town, which took place on Thursday last, fully corroborates our statement. The constituency of Christchurch has done credit to itself and to the province by electing, without party considerations, four men, who by their abilities, character, or stake in the country, may be fairly presumed to be those most likely to do justice to the electors in the Provincial Council. Indeed throughout; the country, with one or two exceptions, there has been *a manifest desire among the electors to select the best men who have presented themselves y so far as the general election has yet gone, we may congratulate the country on the prospect of a very efficient and creditable Council. The electors of Lyttelton have a choice before them to-da} r. We trust that they will emulate the example of Christchurch.
