The accounts thence all concur that stocks of the raw material are very low, particularly of good middle descriptions, at prices ranging from Is. 9d. to 2s. per lb. < The continued ease in our money market, coupled with ] more confidence generally, is a gratifying feature, and it is ] hoped that now the great' speculators (who so unduly . forced prices last year) are out of the money market prices will br> governed by actual demand, and a steady and good trade will no doubt be fie result of a more healthy state of things. Dealers in the north are very short of stock, and ' as the recent failures will bring a good quantity from the 1 north for sale by auction to clear accounts a better tone will prevail there; and-it-is hoped that ere the May sales . , our market will be entirely cleared of all second hand wools. ' We note by the accounts from the colonies that extreme ' prices are being paid for all descriptions, the loss on which ' Will be very serious, as taking an average they are 'full 2d < above present rates, exclusive of all charges. i Mr. H. P. Hughes reports that " tho next public sales \ are fixed to commence on the 25th of February, and that < the market is looking firmer, and hopes are entertained-of j a slight advance in price over the rate-3 of November last." , WhalebuNß.—Southern is more freely offered from the continent, and the prices have receded to _"330 to ~"340 per ton; 7 cwt., ex Kenilworth from 'Auckland, realised < —■205 per ton. Oil.—Sperm has greatly declined in price, as the supply is more plentiful; the last sale only .realised _"80 per tun for sperm oil, J?&6 for headmatter. Whale is also cheaper; the latest quotations are double compass, _"40; single compass, a^SS ; ..inferior, j£il ; and very low dark from •■ the Cape of Good' Hope, 10s. per tun.' Tallow.—The market has again become depressed and -i a further decline of 3s. to 3s. 6d. per cwt. has taken place.
