They have, it is true, heard of your contemplated return to England, but they sincerely trust, unless circumstances of an urgent nature recall you there, that you will, for the present at least, forego your intention, in order to afford to the Province, [ for the ensuing session, the benefit of your most valuable assistance. Tlie attention which you have given to the financial eff'airs of the Colony is calculated to be so eminently valuable to this Province, that the loss of your services at the present juncture would be a serious prejudice to the Province of Canterbury. GENTLEMEN, —In compliance with a Requisition, from a numerous body of electors of the Province of Canterbury, requesting me to allow myself to be nominated as one of their Representatives in the approaching Session of the General Assembly, I have determined to defer my return to England, and to offer myself as a candidate for your suffrages at the ensuing election. GENTLEMEN, — When I first stood forward (at your request) as a candidate for the honour of representing yon in the Provincial Council, you may recollect I stated to you my fears, thai my duty towards you would interfere with my clerical duties. Those fears have now been fully realized, the difficulty of providing a substitute, during my absence at the Council^ becoming every day greater, I beg, therefore, forthwith to resign the trust, when T cannot perform its duties to your benefit or mv own satisfaction. In doing so, however, let me assure yon I shall always feel a deep interest in the welfare of Akaroa, though not her representative. I am, dear Sirs, Your obliged servant, William Aylmer. WHEREAS a Writ, under the hand 01 Jaaiks Edward Fitz Gerald, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury. ■Sec, &c, bearing date the Twentieth day of November, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five, hath been directed to me, John Watson, Esquire, lieturning Officer for the Akaroa District, requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected, by and from amongst the voters duly qualified for that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in manner and form by law prescribed, One Person to serve as a member of the Provincial Council, in the place of the Reverend William Ayl.mkr. resigned : —Now therefore, I, the saiil John Watson, Esquire, Returning officer for the Akaroa District, do hereby in pursuance of the said recited writ, give notice that a public meeting of the electors of the Akaroa District, will beholden at the Resident Magistrate's Court, at Akaroa, on Wednesday, tlie-2nd day of Juunarv, 1 Ssf>, at noon, for the purpose of nominating One Person to serve as a member of the Provincial Council of Canterbury, '"or the Akaroa District, and in the event id" a poll being demanded for the candidates or any of tht-m, such polling-shall take place on Thursday, tlie 3rd day of January, ISSH, in the Resident Magistrate's Court House, at Akaroa ; tho voting to commence at any time after nine o'clock, a.m., of the said day, and lo close at lour o'clock, p.m., of ihe same day.
