ILyitklton Colonists' Society.—-We have ion ifquesleiL to correct nit error which aplaicd in "oitv report of the meeting *of this )cioty on the 20th nit. The words " three doimen," in Ihe aniciidineiil proposed by Dr. onald, were inserted hy a mistake. The clause; adopted stands thus:" The above mentioned rehe Councillors to elect annually out of their vn number a Mayor and three Aldermen, to honi, that is, to the mayor and alderman,' oukl he confided the duties and powors of oinugh Magistrates. Two to sit as ofton as ay he deemed necessary. This Court to he Jfllhstituti'd for ihe'Resident Magistrate's Court." K§ Cmusicuuncu, Jan. 1,1855. — (From our tftor)r\p<mdent). —The match between Cruiskeen *md Ltidi/ Gladstone came off to-day. Theie -Was a \ery good muster of well-mounted specjVtfltois. \ heller match has not yet been run in VOanteihury. The horses were well matched and fCSrefully trained. Cruiskeen, ridden l>y Mr. ■^Freeth, was certainly a move powerful and an bolder horse than the Lady Gladstone Tlie was ridden by 11. A- Hilton, Esq., and Wfemt'd much too slight for. the weight she had (11 stone). It is not surprising, therethat both in the opinions of the knowing 'ofres, and the expectations offthe waverers, ' Crui^kren was to the last the favourite. Even fftei his defeat in the first heat considerable .jtfffoii- wore made to hack him. The preparations lor the race, although so recent, reflected *^fee highest credit upon the Committee. The Course wns well kept, and no accident hap''pbned. The-jockeys came to the weighing ■Sale pieoisely at 2 o'clock. In the first heat Criuskecn 'iook liie lead, the Lady Gladstone wiiiting on him, both taking it very easy. The '"Maoii mare, however, gained ground when imthcM more than halfway round the course, and then the pace became good; both riders seemed l>ent on doing their best, but the lady, when tWithm «i quarter of a mile of the winning post, passed her adversary, and came in first, winning the fii-t heat by about a length. In the second heat the horses started in the same places, hut '•Ca better pace, Cruiskeen apparently labouring in,, keep his position, hut the run throughout was .closer, and better contested. There was a capital run in, the Lady Gladstone winning- by about a length and a half. V Lady Gladstone belongs to Johnny Paliison, a^Maori of great pluck and enterprise. There .was a l.uge assemblage of Maovies on the course, who weie greatly excited during the race, and >eiy pioud of the victory of the " Maori mare." .*i\
