LOCAL INTELLIGENCE.
Pbovincial Council.—We are obliged to postpone the full report of the proceedings of the Provincial Council until Wednesday next, owing to the publication to-day of the Waste Lands' Kegulations. On Tuesday the 12th inst. His Honor's despatch to His Excellency the Officer [Administering the Government which accompanied the Provincial Extension Ordinance, was laid on the table. Also, a Despatch on the subject of Immigration from Melbourne, proposing to pay hall passage money of labourers to this Province, a promissory note beiug taken from the intended immigrants for the amount. Messages from His Honor -were brought up to the following effect. 1. That he had reserved. the Provincial Council Extension OidinancfcJM: the signification of the GovernorVpleasurt^lafej That he assented to.the Scab and Catarrh''OnbH? nance. 3. Transmitting correspondence confccerning the misbehaviour of the Registrar, and requesting a vote of the Council on the subject. 4. Announcing appointment of Mr. E. Dobson as surveyor of Public Works with a salary of £300 per annum, with £50, forage allowance. 5. Proposing that the erection of the new Council Chamber should be entrusted to the Surveyor, of Works, no tenders having been sent in for the work. Mr. Hall gave notice that on Thursday he would submit a resolution to the Council calling for the removal of Col. Campbell from the office' of Registrar. He further'gave notice that the Land [Regulations would be submitted to the House on the same day. Mr. Hamilton. mov 4 ed^ the 3rd reading of the Auctioueers' BiUj^rtuglii" was finally re-committed after a lengtheriOTidebate. The petition of the inhabitants of Lyttelton with reference to the condition of the jetty was then read. After some discussion resolutions were passed aud transmitted to His Honor, recommending that a sum of money be to the repairs of the jetty. The House then adjourned till Thursday, at 4 o'clock.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the Christchurch Colonists' Society took place at the 'White Hart, on Tuesday evening last, Mr. Packer iv the chair. Mr. E. J. Wakefield brought forward, according to notice, his consideration of the propriety of the sub-division of the Christchurcii Country District upon the Electoral roll. Mr. Wakefield briefly addressed the meeting and explained his objections, but concluded without proposing a resolution. The meeting was addressed by Mr, J. Hall, Mr. Thompson, Mr. Bealey, Mr. Imvpod, and Mr. Ollivier, who proposed the following resolution : "That the division of the Christchurch District as contained in the Provincial Council Extension Ordinance is a measure of which this meeting approves, affording as it does ample means of giving full and efficient representation to the various interests in the District." Mr. In wood seconded the resolution, which, after a lengthened reply from Mr. Wakefield, was put to the meeting and carried by a large majority, two hands only being held up against it. ..*..• v

two of the Trustees to be nominated by him, to take the recommendation of the assistant Ministers of the Parish of Christehurch.
