THE CHURCH AT LYTTELTON.

On Saturday evening last a meeting of members of the Church of England resident in Lyttelton was held in the barracks, according to advertisement, " to take into consideration the best course to be pursued with reference to the presen 1. condition of the Lyttelton Church." The Rev. B. W. Dudley having been called to the chair, the meeting commenced with prayer. Reference was then made to the report of the architects employed by the Agent of the Canterbury Association, which we printed in our paper of the Ist inst, but as it appeared from an explanation given by Mr. Sewell, that this report did not pretend to express any formal opinion as to the general security of the present building, the opinion of parties occupied in its construction present at the meeting was elicited by questions from Mr. Sewell and others, after which the following propositions were unanimously adopted:— " Tint it is the opinion of this Meeting that it is hio-hly necessary to take down the present Church in consequence of its general insecurity , ami " That a Committee he appointed to confer with the ajrent of the Canterbury Association as to the best nv>de of taking down the present Church and providing a new one.'' The following persons were requested to act on the Committee:—Messrs. "Rutland. Alport, I.Shriinptoit, D.nuwVv. Tavlor, Cheney, Spowers, Mollett, Dvs. Dmllev and Donald, Captain Simeon, and the Rev. B.W. Dmllev, Chairman, with power to add to their number. At the meeting of the Committee on Monday morning/(Mr. Sewell attending on behalf of the Canterbury Association.) Dr. Dudley was elected Secretary, and the following proposition unanimously agreed to : — " That in the opinion of this Meeting it is expedient that Mr. Dubson be employed ta prepare a specification for taking down the Church in Canterbury Street, and that he he invited to attend the Committee at their next meeting."
